Charleston has been a site of creativity ever since 1916, when it became the home of Bloomsbury group artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, and the House continues to inspire people to bring art into their lives and homes.
In keeping with the original spirit of Charleston, we run a varied programme of creative workshops, our shop is full of beautiful pieces designed by artists and makers with personal connections to the House, and we love seeing of your Bloomsbury-inspired interior design when you share it with us.
It is a real joy to see the enthusiasm of our visitors and friends when it comes to creating their own pieces, and we are thrilled to be stocking a range of Annie Sloan with Charleston paints that will give people another way to decorate their furniture.
Annie Sloan first came across the Bloomsbury group of artists and their country retreat, Charleston farmhouse, whilst she was studying Fine Art. When the opportunity arose for her to collaborate with us and create a unique range of Chalk Paint® colours, she described it as ‘a dream come true’.
Annie Sloan has created three new, limited edition colours named after local places which the artists would have known:
The three exclusive Charleston colours are available to buy as part of three sets designed by Annie, each including two complementary colours from the existing Chalk Paint® palette, one Charleston colour and a Clear Chalk Paint® Wax to protect your finished work.
There is also The Keepsake Box set, which offers the full range of Annie Sloan with Charleston exclusive colours, along with two best-selling neutrals from the Chalk Paint® palette and a Clear Wax, so that you can decorate the box with your own Bloomsbury-inspired design.
Join the decorative painting revolution
Over the last three decades, Annie Sloan has led a decorative painting revolution – sharing her passion for style and colour, and inspiring people to get creative. Her Chalk Paint® is uniquely versatile and easy to use, so everyone can get painting – whether you are decorating your home or working as professional interior designer.
When Annie was first developing her now famous furniture paint, she had a young family and needed a paint that was immediate and allowed her to be spontaneous. Her paints very rarely require any preparation, such as sanding or priming, and can be used indoors or outside, on just about any surface – meaning that you can be as free and expressive across the interior of your home as Vanessa and Duncan were.
Annie Sloan comes to Charleston this December
This 1 & 2 December, Annie Sloan will give painting workshops and a talk exploring her unique relationship with Charleston.
The workshop sessions are already starting to sell out, so do not miss this chance to learn from one of the world’s leading paint and colour experts!
